Akkulturation bezeichnet die Übernahme von Elementen einer Kultur in eine andere. Der Begriff wurde in der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts in der Us-Amerikanischen Kulturanthropologie geprägt.
„Acculturation comprehends those phenomena which result when groups of individuals having different cultures come into continuous first-hand contact, with consequent changes in the original cultural patterns of either or both groups.“
